Replacing a Bath With a Walk-In Shower: What It Costs in Edinburgh

If you are searching for the cost of replacing a bath with a walk-in shower, you want a straight number. We price the job as part of a complete fitted bathroom or shower room, with packages starting from £4,699 for design, supply and fitting. We do not advertise a separate price for a stand-alone bath swap, so this guide explains what decides your figure instead.

What Does Replacing a Bath With a Walk-In Shower Cost?

The honest answer is that it depends on the room under and behind the bath. We fit this as part of our packages, which are starting prices for design, supply and fitting. The table shows where a bath-to-shower job usually lands.

PackageStarting priceWhere a bath-to-shower job fits
Essentialfrom £4,699A walk-in shower on a low-profile tray with a glass screen and wet wall panels, in the existing layout.
Mid-rangefrom £6,499Tiled walls, a vanity with storage, a thermostatic shower, or a formed floor that needs more preparation.
Premiumfrom £8,999Large-format tiles or microcement, a rainfall and handheld shower, fitted storage and underfloor heating.

New bathroom starting from £22 per week*. *Indicative starting figure. Finance subject to status, application and affordability. Terms apply. See the package details for what is included in each range.

Your exact price is confirmed in a written quote after we have seen the room. We would rather say that plainly than quote a low figure that grows later.

Why Don’t You List a Stand-Alone Price?

A bath comes out and a tray goes in sounds simple. In practice the work behind it changes from one flat or house to the next. Some rooms are ready for a tray as soon as the bath is out, and others have damaged floorboards, old pipework or unfinished walls to deal with first.

A single advertised price would either be too low for many rooms or padded for the rest. So we price the whole room, and the quote lists what is included.

If the bath has gone and you are keeping the rest of the suite, say so at the visit. We will tell you what we would keep and what we would change.

What Moves the Cost Up or Down?

  • Tray size. A long tray can use most of the old bath space. A larger tray and a wider screen cost more than a compact one.
  • Waste pipe. If the bath waste can serve the tray, the job is simpler. A new route or a lower floor means more work.
  • Walls. Wet wall panels are quicker to fit than tiles. Tiles take longer and cost more once the labour is counted.
  • The floor. The area under a bath is often unfinished. We may need to repair or replace flooring before the tray goes in.
  • The shower itself. A basic mixer is cheaper than a thermostatic valve with a rainfall head and handset.
  • Extras. A new extractor, a heated towel rail or a shaped niche each add to the quote.

Can a Bath Be Replaced With a Shower in a Day?

You may have seen this offered, and we get asked about it often. We do not promise a one-day fit. The time depends on what we find once the bath is out, on waterproofing, and on whether the walls are panels or tiles.

Sealant and adhesives also need time to set before the shower is used. We confirm the timescale for your room in the written quote after the home visit, so you plan around a real figure and not a guess.

Our guide to how long bathroom fitting takes explains what decides the schedule.

Should I Choose a Tray or a Wet Room Floor?

Most bath replacements use a low-profile tray with a glass screen. It drains reliably and is easier on the budget than reforming the floor. A true wet room has a waterproofed, formed floor and costs more because of the preparation.

Our walk-in shower and wet room service covers both, and the wet room cost guide explains the extra floor work. If you also want to keep a bath somewhere in the house, the walk-in shower or bath comparison may help.

Will a Walk-In Shower Be Easier to Get Into?

Usually, yes, because there is no high bath edge to step over. The tray height still matters, so we check the entry height before we fit.

If steadiness is a worry, a seat, a grab rail or a reachable control can be fitted behind secure wall fixings. Our accessible bathrooms page covers these options.

What Should I Check Before I Agree a Price?

Whoever quotes, compare the same job. Ask for the following to be written down:

  • The tray and screen sizes, with the make and model.
  • The shower valve and head, and whether the valve is thermostatic.
  • How the floor and walls behind the old bath will be made good.
  • Whether removal of the old bath and waste is included.
  • What happens if damage is found once the bath is out.

Check your water too. A mixer or thermostatic shower needs steady pressure, and our water pressure and shower guide shows how to find out what you have.

How Do I Get an Exact Price for My Bathroom?

We cover all of Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. There is no showroom to visit. We come to your home, measure up, check the room and the waste route, and show you tray and screen examples.

You then get a written quote. Our bath to shower conversion page explains the process in more detail, and prices and finance shows how the packages work. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
