Bathroom fitting in a coastal town with a long mining and salt-making history.

Photos for a tight terrace bathroom, a shower-bath family room and a tidy en-suite.

Prestonpans has mined coal since the 1200s, made salt on the shore and brewed beer for centuries. Houses here were built across a long stretch of history, so the age of your bathroom walls and pipes can differ a lot from the house next door.
Before we plan a layout we look at what is behind the old suite. We check the floor, the wall type and where the waste leaves the room, because those decide what can move.
If the floor is uneven or the walls are thick, we say so at the visit and plan the shower tray, tiles or wall panels around it.
Older plumbing sometimes limits where a basin or toilet can go. We mark the options on the plan before you choose a suite.

Prestonpans has its own station on the North Berwick line, and the town has grown from 9,140 people in 2011 to 10,620 in 2022. The station makes the town an easy base for a daily commute.
If your household leaves early, the bathroom has to work at 7am. A walk-in shower, a shower bath with a screen or a bath replaced by a larger shower can make that easier.
Taking out an unused bath often frees enough floor for a wider shower and a storage unit.
A tall cupboard, a deep vanity or a recessed niche keeps towels and bottles tidy without crowding the floor.

Harlawhill, in Prestonpans, is East Lothian's most recently designated conservation area. Inside the room the rules rarely matter. A new window or an extractor vent that shows on an outside wall is different.
For a house in or near a protected area, the vent route is raised early so you can check it with the council's planning team.
We choose where the extractor leaves the building before ordering anything.
East Lothian Council's building standards team handles warrants when a job needs one.
At your Prestonpans home we measure up, study the room and bring examples along. We then send the written quote.

We measure the room and check the walls, floor, pipework and waste route before anything is priced.
We bring examples of suites, tiles and panels, so you can judge them in your own light.
We send a written quote listing the products and the fitting work for your room.

Yes. At the home design visit we check the floor, the walls and where the waste leaves the room. We tell you what can move and what is better left, then put it in the written quote.
Part of it is. Harlawhill is a conservation area, and East Lothian Council says work like replacing windows may need permission there. Fitting a bathroom inside is rarely affected, but we agree any outside vent early.
East Lothian Council. Its building standards team takes warrant applications through the online service. We say at the visit whether your plans are likely to need one.
Yes. A shower tray and glass screen in the old bath space often leaves room for a basin unit and a storage cupboard. We draw the layout at the visit so you can see it before you decide.
