Choosing the right bath for your room

A bath looks simple, but the right one depends on the room around it. We measure the space and talk through how your household uses the bath.

Size and shape

Baths come in straight, compact and shower shapes. We measure the space so the one you choose fits with room to stand beside it.

Bath or shower bath

A shower bath has a wider end for standing under the shower. It suits a household that showers most days but wants to keep a bath.

Floor, waste and walls

A full bath is heavy, and the waste has to fall correctly. We check the floor, the waste route and the wall finish before we confirm anything.

What we do when we fit a bath

Your written quote names the products and work for your room. A bath installation normally covers this.

  • Removing the old bath, panel and taps, and taking the waste away
  • Checking the floor and waste pipe, with any repairs agreed in writing
  • Fitting the new bath level and secure on its frame
  • Connecting the taps or shower and the waste
  • Fitting the bath panel and any screen or shower fittings
  • Making good the wall finish around the bath and sealing the joints

Standard, compact or shower bath?

A standard straight bath suits a room with a full-length wall to fit it against. It is the simplest layout and the easiest to line up with the old waste.

A compact bath helps in a small room where a standard length will not fit. You keep a bath and still have space for the basin and toilet.

A shower bath adds a wider end so you can stand to shower. A glass screen keeps the water in. It suits a family bathroom where one room has to do both jobs.

Replacing a bath in an existing bathroom

The bath comes out, and we see what was behind it. The floor beneath can be unfinished, and the tiles around the old bath often need to be reworked. We check the floor, the waste and the walls at the home visit and write down what we expect.

In a flat, a leak affects the people below, so a sound waste connection and sealed joints matter. Read about tenement bathrooms and what to do after a bathroom leak.

Keep the bath, or swap it for a shower?

If you are not sure you need a bath, think about who uses the room. Our bath to shower conversion page covers replacing a bath with a shower. Our guide on keeping the bath or going walk-in helps you decide.

Getting in and out safely

A bath edge is a high step for some people. We can talk through the bath height, the position of the taps and where a grab rail could go. See our accessible bathrooms page for more.

Have the Bath Space Measured at Home

We measure the space, check the floor and waste, and show you bath and screen examples. Then we send a written quote.

  1. We come out to your home, so we see the room as it really is.
  2. We measure up and check the walls, floor, pipework and waste route.
  3. We show you examples of suites, tiles and panels in your own light.
  4. You get a written quote listing the products and the fitting work.

Why a bath needs a visit

  • We measure the real space, not a catalogue size
  • We check the floor and the waste route
  • We show you baths and screens in your own light

FAQs

Can you replace just the bath?

We fit baths as part of bathroom work and price the room after a home visit. We do not publish a stand-alone bath price. Our packages start from £4,699 for design, supply and fitting, and your written quote lists the products and work.

How much does a new bath cost to install?

It depends on the bath, the taps or shower, the wall finish and the state of the floor and waste. Our packages start from £4,699 for Essential, £6,499 for Mid-range and £8,999 for Premium. After the home visit you get a written quote.

What sizes of bath do you fit?

We fit standard straight baths, compact baths and shower baths. The right size depends on your room, so we measure the space and show you examples at the visit.

Is a shower bath a good choice?

It can be, if one room has to serve a household that mostly showers but still wants a bath. The wider end gives you room to stand, and a screen keeps the water in. We talk through the layout at the visit.

Will a new bath fit where the old one was?

Often, but baths differ in length, width and tap position, so we measure first. Fitting a different size can mean changing the waste, the panel or the wall finish.

Do I need to retile around a new bath?

Frequently the wall finish around the bath is disturbed when the old one comes out. We tell you what we expect at the visit, and the written quote lists the wall finish.

Can a bath be fitted in an upstairs flat?

Yes, in many cases. A full bath is heavy, so we check the floor and joists, and the waste route, before we quote.

Do you repair or re-seal baths?

No. We fit new baths and bathrooms and do not do repairs. If your bath is leaking or the seal has failed, call a plumber or a sealing specialist.
