Flat bathroom with a short bath, slim vanity and tall narrow cupboard

Bathroom renovation for Granton's 1930s council flats

From 1932 the council built a large scheme in Granton of more than 1,700 homes, mostly tenement flats. Most are still lived in today.

Flats from this period were built to a standard plan, so rooms are often a similar size. That makes it easy to see what will fit before we visit.

A shower in place of the bath

A level tray and glass panel give more floor room and are easier for older members of the household.

Shared stairs and stacks

We agree access, protection for the common stair and the waste route before starting.

Modern bathroom with a wet wall panel shower and floating vanity

Bathroom upgrades for new homes at Granton Waterfront

Granton is part of the Edinburgh Waterfront scheme. The council's plan is for around 3,500 new homes there, on top of the older neighbourhoods around it.

New homes tend to have small, fixed bathrooms. If you want something different, check your developer's terms first, then talk to us about wet wall panels, a larger shower or better storage.

Wet wall panels

Smooth panels give an easy-clean shower area with no grout lines.

Storage in a compact room

A vanity with drawers and a recessed shelf fit even a tight new-build room.

Bathroom Fitting Questions in Granton

Can you refit a bathroom in a 1930s Granton flat?

Yes. We measure the room and show a layout. We also plan the stair access and the waste route with you.

I have a new-build near Granton Waterfront. Can I change the bathroom?

Usually yes, but check the developer's paperwork before changing anything they fitted. Then we can plan panels, a bigger shower or better storage.

Is Granton the same as Newhaven for bathroom work?

No. Newhaven's old village has fishing-style cottages and a conservation area. Granton is mostly 1930s flats and new development, so access and pipework differ.

I want a walk-in shower for an older relative in Granton. Can you do that?

Yes. We can fit a level-entry shower with a grab rail and a non-slip floor. Tell us how the person moves around and we will plan around that.
