Bathroom fitting for Mayfield's 1950s-built homes and the older mining rows of Easthouses beside them.

Photos covering a compact room with storage, a shower where the bath was and a clean-finish family bathroom.

Mayfield was built in the 1950s as overspill housing for colliery workers from Newtongrange and Easthouses, and for other essential workers. The homes are modest, laid out around shared green space.
Bathrooms of that period are usually practical rather than generous, so storage and the shower layout matter. We measure the room and the door swing, and look at whether the radiator, the toilet or the window position is limiting the layout. Moving a radiator is often easier than moving a toilet. If the room has a window over the bath, we also look at whether a shower will need a different screen or a waterproof blind.
A vanity with drawers, a recessed niche in the shower and a slim wall cabinet can add shelf space without taking floor space.
With homes grouped around shared greens, we agree where we can park and how materials reach the door.

Easthouses was built in the 1920s for miners and grew in the 1950s, and Mayfield's growth largely took it in. Older and newer homes now sit side by side.
In a mixed area we do not assume a house type. We check the pipework and floors for each home. A house that has been altered over the years may have an extension, a boxed-in pipe or a different floor level in the bathroom, and all of those affect the quote.
Pipes can vary from room to room in an older house. We note what runs where before we price the work.
Lift out the bath, put in a tray and the floor opens up. The toilet and basin often stay where they are.
We come to your Mayfield home, measure the bathroom, check the floor and fixings and show examples. You receive the quote in writing.

We measure the room and check the walls, floor, pipework and waste route before anything is priced.
We bring examples of suites, tiles and panels, so you can judge them in your own light.

Yes. We measure, check the floor and the drain, and show you layouts. Compact rooms usually gain most from storage and a well-placed shower. If the bath is the only one in the house, we talk through whether a shower bath is a better choice than a tray.
Easthouses is part of the same built-up area as Mayfield, and both are within our Edinburgh coverage. Phone 0131 357 3869 and we will confirm cover for your street. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Changes to drainage or ventilation can fall under building standards. Midlothian Council's building standards team is the place to check what applies to your home.
Fewer joints with panels means less to clean, which suits a busy house. Tiles offer wider colour choice. We bring samples of both.
Checked in November 2026 using public sources including City Population (census figures), Midlothian Council.
